Learning to live with the designer’s internal critic.

For my Stage 1 Unit 3 portfolio, I brought my work and reflections together into a single publication. This entire unit had been an exercise in escaping my head as a designer. ‘EX’ focuses on the external, the physical, the tangible result of my work, and symbolises my struggle in escaping that horrific inner critic.

I laid out the publication in InDesign, bringing the different projects together with handwritten headings, doodles and bright highlights. The pixelated cover and receipt-style contents turn it into a ‘receipt of work (for minds that want to erase it)’. My Lens project was the biggest driver for the theme: persevering with the work even if you “hate” it.
